What if the challenge is the gift?Aug 19, 2020
There's a paradox in the creative process.
Recently, I've enjoyed some thought-provoking conversations with members of our #WhatIfUP community.
The big question seems to be: If we acknowledge the challenges of our times, aren't we perpetuating them through the power of our words?
If we are continually focused on what we want, aren't we perpetuating the energy of what we don't have in the present moment?
Not necessarily. In today's #WhatIfWednesday brainstorm, we explore a creative paradox:
What if we don't have to suffer through our challenges?
What if we find a way to love what is even as we dream of what could be?
What if what matters more than the words we say is the feeling from which they are fueled?
The world is changing around us at lightning speed. That's reality.
We are being challenged to do more with less. We are being challenged to care about each other's well-being in a way that seems to limit our freedom. We are being challenged to grow in our empathy by recognizing our own unconscious prejudices.
Do we deny that we live in challenging times? Or do we choose be challenged by what we see around us and rise up to create a new "normal" together?
“Disturb us, Lord, when
We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore...”
- The Prayer of Sir Francis Drake
