What if everyone had someone?Jul 15, 2020
Monday afternoon: A Code Red Alert comes through my phone.
We live in an area where there is high risk for wildfires. So when the evacuation order came on Monday, we were ready. We loaded the car with family, dogs, and 3-days of emergency supplies in less than 15 minutes.
Now, safely out of the way of emergency responders, the next challenge dawned on us. Where do we go next?
Let me tell you about my community: By the end of the day, almost 1000 families were evacuated. The Middle School was set up as an emergency shelter. It was eventually closed. Why? Nobody needed it.
1000 families. And each one found shelter at a moment's notice. As I have reflected on this month's theme of prosperity, a powerful vision emerged:
What if we could create a world where every person knew where to turn in times of need or distress?
What if we could build a network of support, positive encouragement, and compassion that leaves no one behind and allows no one to fall through the cracks?
What if the solutions to every challenge facing our society begin in the heart and solidify through our connection with each other?
Two days later, the fire is contained and evacuation orders have lifted. No one lost their home. No one was injured. We could go back to life as it was before.
But we won't. We've tasted richness in a new way. And in our gratitude, we renew our passion for bringing the inexhaustible resource of LOVE to as many people as possible.
“Prosperity is a way of living and thinking, and not just money or things. Poverty is a way of living and thinking, and not just a lack of money or things.”
